Laser protection and incoherent optical radiation (lamps, LEDs)

The department heads and facility managers who use lasers, laser processing machines or high-power lamps or LEDs in their areas are responsible for safe operation in accordance with current legislation and the state of the art. Safe and certified products must be purchased during the procurement process.

For risk assessment, determining exposure at the workplace and implementing suitable protective measures, Unit 7 offers individual advice on request.
Appointment of laser safety officers:
In accordance with the Ordinance on the Protection of Employees from Artificial Optical Radiation, the head of the department/facility must have a laser safety officer appointed in writing before operating Class 3R, 3B and 4 laser equipment if they do not have the necessary specialist knowledge themselves. The laser safety officer must have the specialist knowledge required for his/her tasks. The technical qualification must be proven by successful participation in a training course and kept up to date through further training.
