Building pollutants

TU Dortmund University does not own the buildings on campus itself, but rents them from Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW (BLB NRW).

Many of the buildings on the TU Dortmund University campus were mainly constructed in the 1970s. At that time, asbestos, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), artificial mineral fibers (AMFs) and wood preservatives such as pentachlorophenol or lindane were used in building materials. These substances have not been produced or used in Germany since the end of the 1980s, as they pose health risks.

Contact persons in the Office of Occupational Safety, Environmental and Health Protection are Claudia Hannappel and Andreas Schlemmer.
