Ongoing doctor
For the treatment of (occupational) accidents, so-called transit doctors must be consulted. These are specially qualified and medically and technically equipped surgeons or orthopaedists with extensive experience in accident medicine.
The transit physicians ensure that injured persons receive the best possible treatment as quickly as possible after an accident at work. Based on the findings, a decision is made as to whether further treatment should be carried out by transit doctors or statutory health insurance physicians.
However, treatment of the eyes and teeth is carried out by appropriate specialists who are not recognized as accident insurance physicians.
By the way: D-physicians will of course also help you and your family with private accidents or surgical illnesses. However, your health insurance company is responsible for this.

Patient transportation
Injured persons must be transported professionally according to their injury. The responsible manager must ensure this. There are no conclusive legal regulations that cover the individual circumstances of each case.
The type and severity of the injury is the main factor in choosing the right means of transportation. A distinction can be made between minor and serious injuries.
What to do in the event of minor injuries?
Minor injuries are, for example, small abrasions, minor cuts, minor bruises or sprains. In the case of minor injuries, after initial treatment by first aiders, accident victims can
- on foot
- by private car
- by public transport
- or by cab
to the treating doctor (if necessary a specialist (eyes, teeth), otherwise preferably a transit doctor or Klinikum Nord). The choice of means of transportation may depend on the type of injury and the distance to the attending physician.
Does the injured person need to be accompanied?
Whether the injured person needs to be accompanied, for example by colleagues, should depend on the type of injury and the condition of the injured person. If in doubt, please allow them to be accompanied.
Who bears the costs of transportation? (does not apply to civil servants)
If the journey is made by private car or public transport, the costs can be submitted to the Unfallkasse NRW, stating the number of kilometers or sending the ticket. For transportation by cab, the costs can then also be submitted to Unfallkasse NRW using the cab receipt. Please obtain a brief written confirmation of the necessity from the doctor treating you.
What to do in the event of serious injuries?
Serious injuries include fractures, severe bruises and sprains, concussions, lacerations and heavily bleeding wounds. In these cases, a transit doctor or the Klinikum Nord hospital should be consulted immediately. The injured person should be transported by an ambulance or emergency ambulance. The paramedics or emergency doctor will provide expert assistance.
Information on accident insurance cover, accident reporting and commuting accidents can be found on the TU Dortmund University service portal.
The most important information in brief:
Employees of TU Dortmund University are insured by law against the consequences of accidents (accidents at work and commuting accidents) with Unfallkasse NRW.
Students at TU Dortmund University are also insured by law against the consequences of accidents with Unfallkasse NRW. Students report an accident at work or on the way to work (in connection with their studies) to the Studierendenwerk Dortmund.
The Unfallkasse NRW always decides on the obligation to provide benefits.
Civil servants are protected in the event of work-related accidents within the framework of the State Civil Servants Act. After treatment, you submit an application for recognition of an accident as an occupational accident to the personnel department. The costs are reimbursed by the personnel department and not by the allowance.
