For students

Information Online

As part of their studies, students acquire knowledge about the dangers and risks of their work. Legal regulations and the university's internal regulations on occupational health and safety and environmental protection must be observed when carrying out activities.

Students have a duty of care with regard to their own work, its impact on the surroundings and the environment.

Students must follow instructions on occupational safety, health and environmental protection as well as official instructions. Operating instructions and laboratory and workshop regulations must be followed. Participation in relevant instruction and training is mandatory. Personal protective equipment must be used as intended. In courses and when carrying out coursework, dissertations and other theses, the manager responsible (for the respective work area) must provide students with the measures necessary for occupational safety, health and environmental protection. Students must adhere to these instructions. The requirements for external internships and excursions must be observed.

The employment prohibitions (e.g. maternity protection, protection of minors) must be observed.

First aid and fire protection measures must be taken within the scope of possibilities and expertise.

Dangers and safety deficiencies must be reported directly to TU Dortmund University managers.

A brief summary of the information can be found in a PDF document for student information . A short video on emergency management is available on the service portal in German and English, which you can watch on your end devices.

Information on accident insurance for students

Students at TU Dortmund University are covered by statutory accident insurance with the North Rhine-Westphalia Accident Insurance Fund (Unfallkasse Nordrhein-Westfalen) in accordance with the German Social Security Code (Sozialgesetzbuch VII) for study-related activities that are directly connected in time and space with our university and its facilities (e.g. library), as well as on the associated routes. This accident insurance cover relates to personal injury. With the exception of aids (e.g. glasses), damage to property is not covered. There is also statutory accident insurance cover for participation in general university sports. The accident insurance provider responsible for the internship company is generally responsible for company internships.

If you suffer an accident, please inform the doctor treating you (if possible, the attending physician) that it is an accident in connection with your visit to the university. Every accident must be reported. Please report the accident as soon as possible to the responsible contact person at the department where you are studying. In the case of a sports accident, this is the HSP. Accidents must also be reported to the Studierendenwerk Dortmund; the Studierendenwerk will forward your legally required accident report to the Unfallkasse NRW.
