Occupational health and safety for managers
TU Dortmund University as an employer - Occupational health and safety for managers
The freedom of research and teaching enables a diverse and dynamic university life. This is why universities differ significantly in their organization from industrial companies or public administration authorities. Dortmund University of Technology is divided into departments, central facilities and administration. The Rector represents the university externally. The managers responsible for the departments include deans, managing directors, heads of chairs, professors, heads of central facilities, department heads, heads of departments and workshop managers. Managers are responsible for safety and the implementation of accident prevention in their respective work area (e.g. chair, test stand). They are responsible for the organization and control of occupational safety and environmental protection. This responsibility may include civil liability and, in extreme cases, criminal liability in accordance with the respective management function.
An instructional film on TU Dortmund University's occupational health and safety organization, accident insurance cover and emergency management can be found on the TU service portal/intranet. The film is 6:35 minutes long and is unfortunately only available in German.

The DGUV's "University" sector rule helps all those responsible to meet the diverse requirements of everyday university life. The industry rule not only addresses typical hazards, such as working in laboratories or handling hazardous substances. It also focuses on typical situations such as internships, excursions and university sports. Those responsible should not only consider standard situations, but also special situations such as new areas of research, major events or accidents.
In order to enable members of the Technical University of Dortmund to access current legislation, access rights to numerous databases have been acquired for them. These include the online environmental database and the university library's online research service (Nautos).
The Office of Occupational Safety, Environmental and Health Protection supports and advises the responsible managers in the departments, central facilities and administration on, among other things, the performance and implementation of occupational health and safety tasks.
